Pulmonologist Responsibilities:

  • Consulting with patients to understand their symptoms and health concerns.
  • Diagnosing and treating conditions, such as asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema.
  • Using and interpreting pulmonological exams and tests to aid in the diagnosis of cardiopulmonary diseases and conditions, including CT scans, chest fluoroscopy, ultrasounds, and bronchoscopies.
  • Performing various specialized procedures in order to acquire samples of the chest wall lining or the lungs, for further analysis.
  • Providing immunizations against preventable cardiopulmonary diseases.
  • Maintaining detailed notes of appointments with patients, including comments, tests and/or treatments prescribed, and test results.
  • Referring patients to cardiothoracic surgeons, when necessary.
  • Advising cardiothoracic surgeons of the risk status of patients and recommending interventions to minimize risk, especially in tuberculosis cases.
  • Providing support and advice to patients receiving long-term care.
  • Conducting research into the testing and development of new medications and methods of treatment.

Pulmonologist Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, physical sciences, or a related field.
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.
  • Excellent communicator who can empathize with patients.
  • Flexible working hours.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Educational Qualifications:

    • MD in Pulmonary Medicine or equivalent from a recognized medical institution.
    • Valid medical license to practice in India.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a clinical setting, specializing in respiratory medicine.
    • Experience in handling complex respiratory cases and providing comprehensive patient care.
  • Clinical Skills:

    • Proficient in diagnosing and treating respiratory diseases and disorders.
    • Familiarity with advanced respiratory diagnostic tools and procedures (e.g., spirometry, bronchoscopy).
  • Patient Care:

    • Strong commitment to providing high-quality patient care and follow-up.
    • Ability to develop and implement effective treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Communication Skills:

    • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
    • Ability to educate patients about respiratory health and disease management.
  • Teamwork:

    • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
    • Experience in mentoring and supervising junior medical staff or residents.
  • Research and Development:

    • Interest in clinical research and contributing to the advancement of respiratory medicine.
    • Ability to stay updated with the latest advancements and best practices in the field.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and other healthcare technology.
    • Familiarity with health informatics and data management in clinical settings.
  • Adaptability:

    • Ability to manage a dynamic and high-pressure environment effectively.
    • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends if required.
  • Certifications:

    • Additional certifications in specialized areas of respiratory medicine (e.g., sleep medicine, critical care) are preferred but not mandatory.
